Your Privacy


For proper treatment, it is necessary that your practitioner keeps a file.  This is a legal duty imposed by the Medical Treatment Agreement Act (WGBO). Your file contains your personal data, annotations about your health status and data on the studies and treatments carried out.

The file also includes information that is necessary or important for your treatment, for example your living and working situation, hobbies, family situation/marital status. Or data that, after your explicit consent, has been requested from your GP or other healthcare provider.

Your practitioner does his/her best to ensure your privacy in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • by carefully dealing with your personal and medical data
  • and by ensuring that unauthorized persons do not have access to your data.

Agreements are made with colleagues, for example, and measures are taken to keep the data safe.

Your practitioner is required by the Privacy Regulations of the Dutch Association for Acupuncture (NVA). You can see these regulations on the NVA website

Only your practitioner, any trainee present (after your consent) and observer in the absence of your practitioner  (after your consent) have access to the data in your file..  They all have a duty of confidentiality.

A small part of your file (name, address, place of birth, date of birth, ev. address) is provided to a competent person for the (financial) administration (e.g. making appointments, invoice/note providing).
